US Army Reserve - Camp Williams Training Facility

The new U.S. Army Reserve Camp Williams in Lehi, UT represents a significant evolution in the design of military workspaces, moving beyond the institutional environments traditionally associated with federal facilities. Designed by Elliott Workgroup, the approximately 250,000-square-foot campus—including nearly 195,000 square feet of furnished space—creates a welcoming, adaptable environment that better supports the needs of today's Army Reserve personnel.

The design challenge centered on creating a facility capable of accommodating the constantly-changing composition of reserve units while supporting a broad range of training, administrative, and collaborative activities. Flexibility became the guiding principle, resulting in multifunctional spaces that can evolve alongside operational requirements rather than remain fixed to a single purpose.

Throughout the facility, flexible furnishings, adaptable workstations, and simplified private office solutions allow spaces to be reconfigured as personnel, technology, and mission needs change over time. Training rooms, conference spaces, administrative offices, collaboration areas, and support spaces were planned as an integrated ecosystem—supporting both focused work and team-based learning while fostering a more connected, inviting experience for service members.

HB Workplaces partnered closely with Elliott Workgroup throughout planning, project management, installation, and now post-occupancy to ensure the furniture solutions aligned with the architectural vision and the Army's operational objectives. Coordinating more than 400 workstation and 300 private office installations within an active government project required careful planning, sequencing, and execution while maintaining flexibility.

The completed project demonstrates how thoughtful workplace design can reshape expectations for military—and government—environments, overall. Rather than relying on conventional standards, Camp Williams embraces a contemporary approach that prioritizes adaptability, collaboration, and long-term resilience. The result is a workplace designed not only for the mission at-hand, but one capable of supporting the evolving needs of the Army Reserve for years to come.
